Strangler Figs

You can’t help but pause in your tracks when you first encounter a mature strangler fig. Its intricate lattice fused roots, the way it rises majestically above the rest of the canopy. Each tree has a personality of its own, looking like something out of Tolkien’s Middle-earth.

I will be traveling to Monteverde, Costa Rica, this April 2026 to begin gathering pictures and sketches.
